Introduction
Certero Provisioning Services is the management console for all your instances (or tenants) of the Certero solution. It provides functions to perform basic tasks such as create, remove and amend platform instance(s). Receiving Certero Provisioning Services updates and notifications of new releases can be automated via the Certero Customer Centre.
Each provisioned platform instance comprises of an Application Server, Endpoint Server / Device and three databases.
Certero Provisioning Services is a web based application used to deploy and manage a Certero platform. A single deployment of a platform is referred to as a tenant or an instance. Certero Provisioning Services can provision any number of tenants with each being completely isolated from the next. Whilst the tenant runtime resides on the same server as CPS, the database group may be placed elsewhere for performance. Certero Provisioning Services allows any number of tenants to be created and is only dependent upon the capacity of the underlying hardware infrastructure. Each tenant runs in its own application pool meaning processor and memory resources can be allocated on an individual basis if required.
Instructions
To create a new instance of Certero Provisioning Services go to the customer centre > downloads and download Provisioning Services. Run the install file on the server that will host the main Certero application and endpoint server.
When a new instance is created, CPS will automatically provision a CMP Application Server and an Endpoint Server for the instance. The Endpoint server will not be ‘active’ by default and will need to be configured as per the needs of the tenant. Equally, where the tenant resides dictates the capabilities of the Endpoint server.
For example, if you are provisioning a Tenant from the cloud, you may not wish to expose your internal Active Directory system directly to the Endpoint server on the hosted CMP instance. Therefore, an Endpoint Server / Device would be provisioned on-premise to allow it to connect to Active Directory and then in turn securely to the hosted CMP instance.
On-going operational management of Certero Provisioning Services and its tenants can be highly automated via integration with the Customer Centre. Whenever Certero publish a release of the Certero Provisioning Services, the Certero unified platform or definitions, it will be on the Customer Centre. Releases will be automatically synchronised with your Certero Provisioning Services instance which will then notify you of the release so you can plan for the relevant updates to take place.
When a new release of Certero Provisioning Services is made available via the Customer Centre, Certero Provisioning Services will indicate that a new version is available by an indicator bar displayed at the top of Certero Provisioning Services application. The bar will have an Update button that can be clicked to initiate the update.
Filesets are used to deploy a tenant instance – they are the setup routine that will do all the things necessary to create a running Certero instance or tenant, including database and website creation and configuration.
Certero Provisioning Services will periodically check if a new release of Certero platform has been published on the Certero Customer Centre. When one is available, it will automatically download the new release fileset and store it on the Certero Provisioning Services server.
Filesets not in use by any tenant can be deleted if required, as indicated by the trash can icon. Any fileset used to deploy a tenant cannot be deleted. As and when tenants are updated to a newer release, any filesets no longer relevant can be deleted.
When a new fileset is available within Certero Provisioning Services it will automatically compare the release version with those of your Certero instances. Selecting the Tenants area of Certero Provisioning Services application will indicate where an update is required by placing a warning triangle next to the tenant name. Each CMP instance can be updated as and when ready.
