Inventory of Non-Persistent VDI's | v8.8+
Non-Persistent virtual desktop environments such as Citrix devices need to be managed correctly within Certero to avoid duplications and to avoid the Certero agent being deployed to these devices incorrectly and cause them to not provide inventory data into the platform. Non-Persistent VDI’s are usually reset back to a default base-image once restarted or on a regular scheduled basis. Many Certero customers use these types of systems and will rely on regular inventory data from these devices into the Certero platform, so it is important that they understand the process. The agent for these types of devices should not be deployed via Client rules in Certero.
Instructions
• Within your VDI server image use the latest Windows ClientSetup.exe file (From within the User > Downloads section of Certero) with AutoStart set to off. This will install the Certero agent but not perform the initial Endpoint server communication. Then deploy the new VDI server image to your VDI devices.
• Within Certero, Archive and then delete from Archive, any existing inventory records for the VDI devices from Computer Systems - All Systems. You want to remove any existing records of these devices from Certero.
• Reset the Endpoint Server database from the Endpoint Server(s) that the VDI devices will communicate with. As per the article
It is possible that the Endpoint Server database still has old references for the VDI devices. Resetting the database allows the Endpoint Server and therefore Certero to see the VDI devices as unique devices. Each VDI device will only communicate once it has been deployed and has a unique ADGUID, which Certero will use as its Unique ID.
Once the agent performs an inventory you should see inventory records within Computer Systems - All Systems for each of the VDI devices.
The Last Inventory field with Client Management - Computers - Timestamps will also be populated.
