Why would you need to delete an Endpoint Server Database?

In certain situations, the Endpoint Server can become out of 'sync' with the Certero Application Server. This can occur, for example, when external factors cause the Endpoint Server database to be locked.

By deleting the endpoint Server database, it in effect performs a 'reset' as it forces the Endpoint Server to completely re-synchronize itself with the main Application Server, thus ensuring it has an up-to-date configuration, settings and information about the endpoint clients it manages.

'Resetting' the Endpoint Server Database

There is always a default Endpoint Server installed with an instance of the platform created using Certero Provisioning. Additionally, you may have installed additional Endpoint Severs within your infrastructure. Here are the steps to delete the Endpoint Server database for these two configurations:

Default Endpoint Server:

This applies to on-premises customers only.

  • Login to Certero Provisioning.

  • Go to the Home page and under the Deployment tab, make a note of the Tenant ID for the impacted instance of Certero.

  • Next, navigate to the Tenants page.

  • For the impacted tenant, click the Stop button to stop all services for the instance of Certero. Note that users will be unable to use this instance of Certero whilst the services are stopped.

  • With the services stopped, logon to the Windows server itself using an account with local administrator privileges.

  • Navigate to the folder where the instance is located:

[Installation Path]\Provisioning Services\InstanceRoot\[Impacted Tenant ID]\Endpoint Server\Database
  • Delete the Endpoint Server Database file ceps.db in this folder. Do NOT delete the other files in this folder.

  • Back in Certero Provisioning, click the Start button next to the impacted tenant to restart the services for the instance.

  • You will see a new version of the Endpoint Server Database file ceps.db in its folder.

Additional Endpoint Servers:

This applies to on-premises and SaaS hosted customers.

  • Logon to the Windows server itself using an account with local administrator privileges.

  • Stop the Endpoint Server services:

    • Certero Endpoint Server Data Collection

    • Certero Endpoint Server Scheduler

  • Navigate to the folder where the instance is located:

[Installation Path]\Database
  • Delete the Endpoint Server Database file ceps.db in this folder. Do NOT delete the other files in this folder.

  • Restart the stopped services.

  • You will see a new version of the Endpoint Server Database file ceps.db in its folder.

Start the endpoint services (one EPS at a time, wait 90 seconds between each one if performing this action against multiple endpoint servers)
