How can I target multiple devices for Remote Inventory or Client Deployment | v6 and above
When either deploying the Certero Client or enabling Remote Inventory against devices within the Certero Management Platform, you can utilise the Client Rules in order to make this a much more efficient process.
Client Rules use the familiar Query Builder within the Management Platform in order to ensure you have targeted the relevant machines with either the Client Deployment of the Remote Inventory. Using the Client Rule will mean you can automatically target devices for either task.
Client Rules are dynamic, meaning if in the future a new machine is deployed or discovered within your organisation that matches the query, the client rule will be executed against the machine.
How do I create a Client Rule?
Creating a Client Rule for Client deployment/targeting of Remote Inventory is a quick and simple process and can be achieved through the following steps:
Navigate to the Certero Management Platform and log in
Navigate to Client Management > Client Rules
Click New
Input the relevant Name and Description
Select the Type
Enable Remote Inventory
Deploy Client Agent
Leave Auto-Apply enabled
This allows the Client Rule to be dynamic going forward - as mentioned above
Set the Data Type
Computers - Discovered Windows Machines
ICMP Devices - Typically discovered Linux & Unix machines with port 22 open
Select the appropriate credentials option (This account will need to be a local administrator of the machines)
Use default credentials - This will be the credentials that are used within the Active Directory connector
Use a saved set of credentials - This is a list of different credentials which is created under Client Management > Credentials
Use custom credentials - You can input a different set of credentials using this option
Leave Automatic Select under Endpoint Server enabled - this will determine which Endpoint Server deploys the client/enables Remote Inventory based on it's network
Head to the Criteria tab - this will be used to determine which machines are targeted by the rule
Once you have done all this, click Save. The rule will then be applied to the relevant devices.
