How to configure discovery of SNMP devices | v8.0 and above

This article provides information on the configuration of network discovery to include devices running SNMP versions 1, 2 or 3.

The Certero Unified Platform is able to extract additional inventory information for Switches, Routers and Printers through SNMP.

Details of the SNMP devices are presented through Navigation Menu > Network Devices

Configuration

The following steps outline the process of configuring SNMP discovery:

  1. Edit the properties for an existing Network ( Administration > Networks )

  2. Navigate to the Discovery tab and ensure that SNMP Discovery is selected.

  3. Navigate to the SNMP Tab to start entering community strings and credentials.

  4. Select Add New to open an additional window within which the connection details for SNMP can be configured:

    Adding an SNMP version 1 or 2 Community string:



    There are 3 levels of security available for SNMP version 3, select the appropriate security level from the Version drop down list and enter the associated credentials

  5. For networks which have multiple devices using a combination of SNMP versions and authentication methods it is possible to add multiple credentials to the network:

  6. It is also possible to update the SNMP credentials for multiple networks at the same time.  To do this navigation to Administration > Networks, select the required networks and then Right Click > Actions > Set SNMP Credentials:

7.  You can then enter multiple SNMP credentials to be used against the selected networks:

Please note that existing SNMP credentials are not listed here, this is for applying new permissions             only.  You must check the properties of individual networks to view the current SNMP settings.
