The intention of this guide is to support Certero customers with a recommended ITAM dashboard to help provide an overview of depreciated systems within your environment.

A deprecated operating system refers to software that no longer benefits from official support and updates provided by its manufacturer or developer. Consequently, the system is left without active maintenance, leaving potential security vulnerabilities and other issues unaddressed.

The expiration timeframe for operating systems varies depending on the specific system and the support policies of its manufacturer. For instance, Windows 8.1 and earlier versions are no longer supported by Microsoft.

It's crucial to recognize that even if an operating system is still officially supported, older iterations may be deemed outdated if they lack essential security updates or features present in newer releases. Generally, it is advisable to utilize the latest compatible version of an operating system to ensure optimal performance and security for both hardware and software.
