The Certero connector for Tableau uses the Tableau APIs to connect and retrieve data from Tableau Online.

Enabling API access within Tableau

Create a Connected App in Tableau

A Connected App must be created in Tableau to allow the Certero connector to get information via the Tableau API.

  • Log in to Tableau Cloud using a site administrator account

  • From the left pane select Settings > Connected Apps

  • Click the drop-down arrow on the New Connected App button and select Direct Trust

In the dialog box that appears, enter a name for the connected app and click the Create button. Note that you do not have to enter values for the other fields

Click the actions menu next to the connected app’s name and select Enable

Make a note of the connected app’s Client ID

Generate a secret

Tableau allow you to generate up to two secrets for each connected app.  This allows you to rotate secrets in the event that a secret is compromised.

  • Go to the detail page of the app you just created

  • Click the Generate New Secret button

  • Make a note of the secret ID and secret value

Create a new Certero Tableau Connector

Enable the feature for the Endpoint Server

  • In Certero > Administration > Endpoint Servers , right click on the endpoint server the Tableau connector will use and choose properties

  • Click on the Features option

  • Enable the Tableau Connector row

Click on Save

Create the connector for Tableau

  • In Certero > Connectors > Tableau click the New button

  • Add a name and description

  • Pick the Region from the drop-down list.  The region can be viewed in the Tableau URL on any web page once the customer has logged in

Enter the Site Name in the Site Name field

Enter the administrator email address used when creating the Connected App in the Username and enter the Client ID, Secret ID and Secret for the Connected App

Click on Save
