Windows Systems: Identify Users Assigned to Multiple Devices | v8+

This Custom Group implementation provides valuable insight into device inventory where the last logged on user is found on more than one device within your organization. It helps Software Asset Management (SAM), ITAM, and security teams better understand device-to-user ratios and identify where users may be consuming more hardware resources than expected.

Use Case:

This group would be particularly useful for:

  • Auditing for potential dual device usage for Windows systems

  • Detecting potential non-compliance with internal policies

  • Supporting rationalization or hardware refresh planning

What does it do?

Custom Groups allow System Administrators to execute custom SQL queries directly from the UI which can be then viewed as a filtered grid view result.  The query has been designed to show devices where the Last Logged on User exists more than once under Computer Systems > Microsoft Windows . This group will update dynamically each day based on inventory.

How to use the new group:

  • Download the attached zip file (

) and extract to a preferred directory

  • Login to your Certero platform using a SYSADMIN account

  • Navigate to Data Groups > Custom Groups

  • Select Import

  • Browse to your downloaded JSON group and import

  • Press Save

  • Expected result shown below (numbers will vary)

For security reasons, custom data groups and the ability to import/create options are disabled for non-sysadmin logins.
