This page provides a powerful but intuitive reporting interface that enables detailed, flexible, forensic investigations of FOCUS data.

The Perspective selector presents key FOCUS columns and vtags that apply a grouping to the chart and table. The Perspective Filter provides filtering on the values of the selected Perspective.

A range of standard FOCUS filters are always available, such as vendor, account, charge category, resource type, etc.

The Date Range selector provides control of the start and end dates of the data in scope of the reporting. The Interval selector toggles the chart X-axis between daily and monthly groupings.

Use the sliders on the chart axes to zoom in and achieve visual separation of column categorizations. Making selections in the Perspective Filter will also assist here.

Filtering Charge Category on Usage is a great way to improve chart visibility as it filters out purchasing spikes.

The Currency Source toggle will switch costs between BASE and FOCUS. FOCUS shows costs in the original billing currencies. BASE shows costs in your pre-configured base currency, which is a designated currency used for consolidating multi-currency costs.

The report defaults to showing costs in BASE currency because selecting FOCUS means that, for multi-currency customers, the chart can show cost aggregations containing multiple currencies. The table has a BASE/FOCUS currency column and will therefore always separate the costs for different currencies.

The Resource First Seen Age selector and the First Seen Age Perspective provide an ingenious and revealing means of visualising and investigating emerging costs.

First Seen Date is each resource’s earliest FOCUS chargeperiodstart date. First Seen Age is the number of days between “today” and the first seen date.

Select the First Seen Age Perspective to group costs by first seen age. Filtering First Seen Age on 0 to 30 days using the selector will (for example) scope the reporting on resources provisioned within the last 30 days.

A resource age of -1 is assigned to the small fraction of FOCUS data rows that do not have a resource ID, and so for which resource first seen age cannot be defined.

The table shows a per-resource ID breakdown of the data in scope of the chart. Click on a chart element, e.g. a block of color in a chart column, to filter the table on the scope of that block.

The table can be exported using the mouse-over ellipses (…) for external examination or escalation to FinOps Engineer personas.

The table columns include First Seen date.

Because FOCUS data contains very small costs, much smaller than two decimal places, even aggregated costs can be less than 0.01 and thus appear in the reports as 0.00. The 0.00 toggle at the top of the screen will show/hide cost rows in the table that have real but negligible costs showing as 0.00.
