Quotas & Budgets

Quotas and Budgets are a type of policy where you can define custom criteria to track and alert on spend and resource counts.
For quotas, you will define a resource count threshold, and for budgets you will define a cost threshold. For both types, you can scope the policy using a range of filters. In this example quota, we want to be alerted if there are more than one hundred Instance resources in the AWS pool:

Quota policies will be breached if the number of resources exceeds the threshold at any time.
Budget policies will be breached if the cost to date for the current month exceed the threshold.
Budget policies can be recurring or expiring. Recurring budgets run every new month. For expiring budgets, you set a start date from which monitoring will begin, and it will cease monitoring at the end of that month.
The main Quotas and Budgets screen will list your policies and show their thresholds, filters and status. Clicking on a policy name will show you the violation history for the policy, with options to rename or delete the policy.
Note that once a policy is configured, you can’t edit the threshold or filters, as this would break the validity of the policy violation history.
Email notifications will be received for policy violations.
The Executive Dashboard includes a Policy Violations tile at the lower-left that lists policy violations and includes drill-through links.
