Cost Map

The Cost Map screen shows geographical cost distribution based on cloud vendor regions. At the top-right of the screen is the date range selector for scoping the displayed costs.

The Costs Map screen has two modes.

Region Mode

The first expenses tile at the top-left shows total costs for the selected date range:

The second tile (above) shows the total expenses for the same number of days that adjacently precede the selected date range.

You can pan and zoom the map using the familiar mouse controls.

Bubbles on the map represent regional cost groupings of cloud vendor regions. The coloured dots in the bubble correspond with the cloud vendor key above the map. Hovering the mouse cursor above a bubble, shows the costs broken down by cloud vendor region. Show resources links in bubbles will switch to the Resources costs screen, pre-filtered on the selected cloud vendor region.

Below the map is a list of costs broken down by cloud vendor region, each with an action icon also leading to a the pre-filtered Resources costs screen.

Network Traffic Mode

This mode reports on costs attributed to network activity. There is a set of tiles and controls at the top:

  • Total expenses tile: As per it’s title, shows total network traffic expenses for all cloud vendors.

  • Total usage tile: Shows total network throughput for all cloud vendors.

  • Vendor selector: Switches the map display to show traffic for a single, selected cloud vendor.

  • Show directions with expenses <1 slider: Enables the display of very small instances of costed network traffic. When enabling this, you may see costs displayed as zero, because the actual costs are too small to be shown by two decimal places in the user interface.

The size and color of location nodes, and the color of lines, are scaled based on total cost; as per the color scale at the bottom of the chart.

Below the chart is a matrix of network traffic from (vertical) and to (horizontal) regions.

Clicking on nodes and lines on the chart will filter both the chart and the matrix. Sometime a double-click is required. The Clear Filter link below the chart clears such filtering.

The Show Resources link below the chart will switch to the Resources costs screen, pre-filtered according to any filtering you have on the map.
