# **Question**

In **CPS** > **Backups** you can see the list of tenant backups. Backups that have been created during policy backup cycles will have a **clock** symbol and the policy name will be in the **Description** column of the Backups grid.

You’ll also note that there is no **trashcan** icon for those backups with which you could delete them. The backup policy will normally age out old policy-based backups according to the policy retention configuration.

Sometimes there is a need to manually remove these policy-based backups. How can we do this if there is no trashcan icon?

# **Answer**

Click and confirm the **Tag** icon at the right of the backup record to **Preserve** the backup. This will de-link the backup from the policy, as confirmed by looking at the **Description** field, which will no longer contain the clock symbol. Because the backup is no longer policy-based, the trashcan icon will now be available for you to delete the backup.
